Guangzhou's Air, Rail and Sea Corridors: Turning a Logistics Hub into Your Order Advantage

2.38 million tonnes of air cargo, 20.489 million TEU by sea, 15 days to Europe by rail, and a 30-minute cross-river link — Guangzhou's three corridors and its one-hour rail circle add up to the shortest sourcing radius in South China.

Guangzhou has been a trading city for a thousand years, and never only because of what it makes. It is a city built on corridors. Cargo doors open at Baiyun Airport, China-Europe freight trains pull out of Guangzhou International Port, and container ships work the deep-water berths at Nansha — every day, connecting factories in the Pearl River Delta to orders around the world. Add the high-speed rail web that ties Guangzhou South, the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link and the Nansha hub into a one-hour circle, and the whole Delta becomes your sourcing radius.

For an overseas buyer, sourcing in Guangzhou means three routes out — air, rail and sea — plus a rail network that reaches Foshan, Dongguan, Zhongshan, Zhuhai and Jiangmen within the hour. That is where WhySource comes in. As the international sourcing arm of Guangzhou Wenxun Technology, we turn the city's supply base and its corridors into delivery speed and landed cost you can actually see on a quote. We are based here, and we handle sourcing, factory audits, order follow-up, inspection and freight in one place.

1. Baiyun Airport: the world's 9th busiest cargo airport

In 2024 Baiyun International Airport handled 2.3825 million tonnes of cargo and mail, up 17.3% year on year, ranking second among Chinese airports for the fifth consecutive year (Guangzhou Statistics Bureau). On Airports Council International (ACI) figures the airport handled 2.3737 million tonnes and ranked 9th worldwide for cargo, and 10th for aircraft movements.

On 30 October 2025 the new Terminal 3 and fifth runway entered service, moving Baiyun into a five-runway, three-terminal operating era. Near-term capacity is 3.8 million tonnes of cargo a year, with a terminal design capacity of 6 million tonnes.

What this means for you: high-value, low-volume goods, urgent restocking and sample confirmation — air freight lands in 3 to 7 days. WhySource arranges direct air shipments for sample orders and rush orders, so approving a sample never holds up the bulk order.

2. Guangzhou International Port and the China-Europe railway: about 15 days to Europe

In 2024 the number of China-Europe freight trains dispatched from Guangzhou rose 25.3% year on year (2025 Guangzhou Municipal Government Work Report). Trains supervised by Guangzhou Customs and departing from Guangzhou International Port alone numbered 390, carrying 42,300 TEU with a value of RMB 10.91 billion.

On 18 January 2025, train X8120 left Guangzhou International Port, taking the Greater Bay Area's cumulative China-Europe service past 4,000 trains. Trains departing from Guangzhou International Port reach Europe in about 15 days.

What this means for you: for Russia, Central Asia and Eastern Europe, rail is the value play — roughly twice as fast as sea freight and far cheaper than air. Our team works in Chinese, English and Russian, and can size your shipment as a full container or LCL so goods move from the factory floor to a European warehouse without a break in the chain.

3. Nansha Port: 20.489 million TEU and the confidence to quote big volumes

In 2024 Nansha port area handled 20.489 million TEU, placing it among the world's leading single port areas and making it the second single terminal area in China — after Shanghai's Yangshan — to pass 20 million TEU in a year. Foreign-trade containers passed 10 million TEU for the first time, accounting for 50% of throughput.

The port area operates 174 international liner services, more than 85% of them connecting Belt and Road partner countries. Sea-rail intermodal volume reached 450,000 TEU in 2024, up 47% year on year. Guangzhou Port has ranked first among China's domestic-trade container hubs for 16 consecutive years.

What this means for you: full containers, bulk cargo, heavy and out-of-gauge equipment — Nansha is one of South China's most dependable departure points. Volume buys you cost headroom by sea, and mature domestic and international networks mean space is easier to secure in peak season.

4. Guangzhou South, the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link and Nansha: a one-hour sourcing circle

Guangzhou South Station: one of China's four principal high-speed rail terminals, alongside Beijing, Shanghai and Wuhan. The Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong express rail links West Kowloon to Guangzhou South in under 50 minutes at its fastest, and cross-border passenger volume on the Hong Kong section has passed 100 million since opening. An overseas buyer landing at Hong Kong International Airport can be inspecting factories in Guangzhou the same day.

Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link: opened on 30 June 2024, the world's first cluster project combining bridges, artificial islands, an immersed tunnel and an underwater interchange. At about 24 km with eight lanes in each direction, it cuts the Shenzhen-Zhongshan drive from roughly two hours to 30 minutes and links north to Nansha via the Wanqingsha interchange — bringing the western Delta's industrial belt into the same travel time as Shenzhen Airport and Shenzhen Port.

Nansha hub: the planned Nansha station is scheduled for completion in February 2028, adding the Nansha Port Railway, the Shenzhen-Jiangmen railway, the Guangzhou-Zhongshan-Zhuhai-Macao high-speed line and several intercity and metro services. It will put multiple Greater Bay Area cities within an hour, and sit alongside the port itself — a rail hub next to the berths, which speeds up both sea-rail transfer and regional distribution.

What this means for you: sourcing in Guangzhou was never limited to Guangzhou. Within the hour lie Foshan, Dongguan, Zhongshan, Zhuhai and Jiangmen — the Delta's manufacturing heartland. We can meet you at Guangzhou South in the morning and have you walking three factories by the afternoon.

5. Turning corridors into orders: WhySource is your team on the ground

Mixed by design: we model air, sea and rail against your cargo value, timeline and destination, then recommend the option that actually fits.

Hands on the whole way: factory audit, order follow-up, inspection and freight — one point of contact, and you never have to fly in to chase a production line.

Three working languages: Chinese, English and Russian, so inquiries from the Russian-speaking market do not stall.

Rooted in the Delta: based in Guangzhou, covering the industrial belts of Foshan, Dongguan, Shenzhen, Huizhou and Zhongshan, with direct access to source factories.
