Guangzhou Moves North: The International Trade Port and a Canton Fair That Never Closes
On 8 October 2026 construction began in Huadu on the Guangzhou International Trade Port, planned at 9.86 square kilometres with about 14.5 million square metres of total floor area; 154 strategic cooperation projects were secured and 71 signed on site. It is not a copy of Yiwu: it turns the Canton Fair's roughly one month of annual traffic into year-round order matching, which is exactly the network WhySeek Select wants to plug into.

October 2026
If Nansha is the pole where Guangzhou reaches to the sea, Huadu is the other pole where Guangzhou reaches north. On 8 October 2026 the first phase of the Guangzhou International Trade Port, planned across 9.86 square kilometres with about 14.5 million square metres of total floor area, broke ground in Huashan Town, Huadu District, and global investment promotion began the same day: representatives of more than 460 enterprises and institutions from 48 countries and regions gathered in Guangzhou, 154 strategic cooperation projects were secured and 71 representative projects were signed on site.
A Guangzhou Version of Yiwu, But Not Yiwu's Business
In scale it is often called a Guangzhou version of Yiwu. Yiwu International Trade City's five districts cover about 2,140 mu with about 6.4 million square metres of operating space; the trade port's planned area of about 14,790 mu is roughly seven times that land area, and its total floor area is more than double Yiwu's operating space. But unlike Yiwu's path of small commodities, large markets, many varieties and small batches, the trade port explicitly takes a differentiated route of mid-to-high end and large volume: it targets full-order procurement from industrial belts and branded orders, acting as an upgraded host for the Canton Fair's spillover rather than a copy of traditional stall wholesale.
The port advances under the concept of coordinating business, production and living, with a layout of one core and four zones. The trade core zone that broke ground first involves RMB 32.5 billion of investment and more than 3.2 million square metres of development, planned for use in 2028. It is not another wholesale market but an extension of transactions into a year-round trade ecosystem: it sets up the Guangzhou International Land Port with port functions, an inland port with customs supervision moved forward, aiming for one declaration, one inspection, one release and one container all the way through, with samples out in 72 hours, customs clearance in three hours and delivery to the United States and Europe in 72 hours. The industry calls it Canton Market, a Canton Fair that never closes.
The Airport's Continued Rise Is Its Foundation
What supports the trade port is the airport's continued rise: Baiyun Airport handled about 67 million passengers in the first three quarters of 2026, first among individual airports in China, and is expected to pass 90 million for the year. Terminal 3 and the fifth runway, with a total investment of about RMB 53.77 billion, entered service in October 2025, raising the airport's designed capacity to 120 million passengers a year.
What It Means for WhySeek Select
For WhySeek, whose goal is to take quality Chinese goods abroad, the value lies here: it turns the Canton Fair's roughly one month of global traffic into year-round orders and buyer resources. Wellness foods grounded in food-medicine traditions and household consumer goods used to reach overseas customers through scattered channels; now they have a concentrated venue for display, transaction and logistics. The large number of overseas buyers coming to Guangzhou also creates a natural composite scenario for business travel combined with health experiences. And the mid-to-high end, large volume positioning means the platform sets higher demands on suppliers' selection, quality control and reliable delivery, which is exactly in step with WhySeek Select's route of curating a few things well rather than trying to cover everything.
